Ex-MP Maleque placed on 4-day remand

A Dhaka court granted a four-day remand for former Member of Parliament (MP) from Dhaka-20 constituency MA Maleque in a case filed over the murder of one Riajul Islam in Ashulia area during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tajul Islam Sohagh passed the order on Thursday (March 6) after hearing the case.
Earlier, Sub-Inspector of Ashulia Police Station Omar Faruk, also the investigating officer of the case, produced him before the court with seven-day remand prayer.
Maleque was arrested from the capital’s Mirpur area at the night of March 5.
Riajul Islam, 38, joined anti-discrimination rally on Nabinagar-Chandra Highway under Ashulia Police Station on August 5. He got shot and was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The case was filed in this connection on November 24.
