Ex-senior secretary Ziaul put on 2-day remand

A Dhaka court has granted a two-day remand former senior secretary of the ICT ministry NM Ziaul Alam in a case filed under cyber security act for allegedly selling citizens’ national ID (NID) information.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam passed the order on Thursday (March 6) as investigating agency Criminal Investigation Department (CID) produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.

Police arrested Ziaul Alam from Chattogram city’s Panchlaish area on March 5.

One Enamul Haque filed the case with Kafrul Police Station on October 9, 2024.

According to the case statements, the accused gave permission to Digicon Global Services Limited for using NID information for commercial purpose. That company without ensuring the safety of the data, sold the information to 182 companies in home and abroad. They embezzled Tk around 20,000 crore.
