Police disperse Hizb ut-Tahrir procession in Baitul Mukarram

Police dispersed a procession brought out by the banned organisation Hizb ut-Tahri in front of Baitul Mukarram in the capital on Friday (March 7).

Police fired tear gas and sound grenades to disperse them. Meanwhile, additional police, RAB and army personnel were deployed in the area.

The members of the banned organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir started the procession from the Baitul Mukarram after the Jummah prayer as part of their 'March for Khilafah' programme.

They began the procession from the mosque’s north gate, passing through Paltan and heading toward the Bijoynagar water tank. At one stage, police tried to stop them which triggered the clash.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Motijheel Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shahriar Ali said the law enforcers cordoned Baitul Mukarram and adjacent areas.
