Complete trial of Magura’s child rape within 180 days: HC

The High Court (HC) has instructed the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal to complete the trial of the case filed over the rape of an eight-year-old girl in Magura within 180 days.
The HC bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury issued the order on Sunday (March 9).
At the same time, the court instructed the authority of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to urgently remove all the images of Magura’s raped child from social media platforms.
The court also ordered the appointment of a social service officer to take care of the rape victim and her 14-year-old sister and ensure their safety.
Earlier, Barrister Mahsib Hossain brought a newspaper report covering the rape victim child to the court’s attention. During the hearing, he urged the court to take necessary measures to protect the child’s health.
On Saturday, the girl was transferred to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) from Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) following deterioration of her physical condition.
A case was filed in this connection after three days of the incident.
On Wednesday (March 5), the 8-year-old child was raped at her sister’s house in Magura.
