5 members of Hizb ut-Tahir sent to jail

A court in Dhaka has sent five members of banned Hizb ut-Tahrir to jail in a case lodged over engaging in a clash with law enforcers.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Wahiduzzaman passed the order on Sunday (March 9).

The accused are – Mashrafi Rahman Mahi, 20, Irfan Shahriar, 20, Md Saiful Islam, 19, Md Anasur Rahman, 20, and Md Sohel Rana, 39.

Earlier, the investigation officer the case, produced the accused before the court seeking 10 days of remand. Later, the court sent them to jail and fixed March 13 for the next hearing.

On March 8, the members of Hizb ut-Tahrir brought out a procession in Baitul Mukarram area in the capital after Jumma prayers. As the police tried to stop them, the Hizb ut-Tahrir men engaged in a clash with them. They started hurling brick bats at the law enforcers.
