Chandrima Udyan in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area has been renamed as Zia Udyan.
The park is notable for being the place where the former President and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman was buried.
A notification signed by Naila Ahmed, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, said that as per the decision of Article 12.3 of the Advisory Council meeting of the Cabinet Division, the changed name of Chandrima Udyan located in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka has been reinstated as Zia Udyan.
After the Awami League government came to power in 1996, the name of Zia Udyan was changed to Chandrima Udyan. However, as per the decision taken in the Advisory Council meeting of the interim government, the previous name Zia Udyan has been reinstated.
