Govt employees to enjoy 9-day Eid holiday

The government has approved a nine-day holiday for its employees on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The approval was granted on Thursday (March 20) during a meeting held at the office of the chief adviser. Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus presided over the meeting.

March 31 (Monday) will be a general holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr. The two days before Eid, March 29 and 30 (Saturday and Sunday), and the two days following Eid, April 1 and 2 (Tuesday and Wednesday), will also be government holidays under the executive order. Additionally, March 28 (Friday) will be a regular weekly holiday.

Furthermore, April 3 (Thursday) will also be declared a government holiday through the executive order. The following two days, April 4 and 5 (Friday and Saturday), are regular weekly holidays. Consequently, government employees will be able to enjoy a continuous 9-day holiday this year.

Currently, there are about 15 lakh government officials and employees.

According to Bangladesh Bank sources, some branches of public and private banks are kept open under special arrangements every year ahead of Eid. However, Bangladesh Bank has not yet taken any decision in this regard.
