DGHS driver Malek jailed for 13 years

A Dhaka court has sentenced Abdul Malek, a driver of Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS), to 13 years’ rigorous imprisonment in a case filed for allegedly acquiring illegal wealth.
Judge Zakaria Hossain of the Special Judge’s Court-6 of Dhaka delivered the verdict on Sunday (March 23).
Malek was sentenced to 10 years in prison on the charge of acquiring wealth beyond known income, along with a fine of Tk one lakh, and in default of which, he will have to serve another six months in prison.
He was also sentenced to three years in prison on the charge of concealing information, along with a fine of Tk one lakh, and in default of which, he will have to serve another six months in prison.
The court ordered the confiscation of the illegally acquired amount of Tk 1,50,31,810 in favor of the state.
