Two top officials in the US foreign ministry are scheduled to visit Dhaka on April 15 and April 16.
This would be the first visit by a delegation from President Donald Trump’s administration.
The two top officials are Andrew R Herrup, a deputy assistant secretary at the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs in the US Department of State, and Nicole Ann Chulick, a deputy assistant secretary at the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs under the same department.
The US foreign ministry officials will give priority on Bangladesh’s state reform agenda and the Rohingya crisis during discussions with the interim government, diplomatic sources said.
On April 15, Andrew R Herrup will reach Dhaka on a four-day tour to discuss the Rohingya refugee crisis, and the fast-changing scenario in the Myanmar civil war.
On April 16, Nicole Ann Chulick will reach Dhaka to discuss the state reform plans and how the US can contribute in the process. She will also hold talks with the civil society and top political parties like BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami.
