Iceland wants to import ships from Bangladesh: Ambassador

Dhaka, Feb 13 (risingbd24.com)--As Bangladesh is gradually making its mark in shipbuilding, Iceland has shown its keen interest to import ships from Bangladesh.

Newly-appointed Iceland Ambassador to Bangladesh Gudmundur Eirikson said this while presenting his credentials to President Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban on Wednesday.

Welcoming the new envoy, the President said an excellent bilateral relation is prevailing between Bangladesh and Iceland, and emphasised developing trade relations between the two countries.

Recalling Iceland’s support to Bangladesh during the country’s Liberation War, Zillur expressed gratitude to the Iceland government as well as its people for their role.

The President sought assistance for the country’s education sector and increased student scholarships in higher education.

Zillur Rahman also urged the Iceland government to open a permanent Embassy in Dhaka.

The envoy informed the President that Iceland is interested to assist in trade and other sectors apart from extending support for the education sector.

Eirikson lauded the government efforts for the country’s socioeconomic development in recent years despite world economic recession.
