Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed seven persons on a five-day remand each in connection with the gun attack on Awami League central leader AKM Enamul Hoque Shamim.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafizur Rahmand passed the order after Motiur Rhaman, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Dhanmondi Police Station, produced them before it with 10-day remand prayer for each.
The accused are Monir Hossain alias Monir, Mehedi Hasan alias Saikat, Nazrul Islam alias Jewel, Mohammad Harun, Rana Hawladar, Nazimul Haque, and Nur-e-Alam Siddiki.
The Detective Police arrested Siddique, Hawlader and Mitthu from Dhaka on Tuesday night while the others were arrested from different parts of the country the previous day by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
Meanwhile, the defence lawyers submitted separate bail petitions for their clients that were rejected by the Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafizur Rahmand.
A member of Awami League’s central committee and former president of its student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League, Shamim was attacked at Dhaka’s Dhanmondi on Jun 19.
Motorcycle borne miscreants fired at him several times.
He rushed to the Bangladesh Medical College and Hospital with bullet wounds on his left hand. Later, he was shifted to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
Shamim is also the founder president of Board of Trustees of Stamford University and vice-chairman of Port City International University in Chittagong.
