Tk. 22cr of Maheshkhali power project swept

Sujauddin Rubel: The divisional investigation found involvement of several government officials in embezzlement of Tk. 22.33 crore of Maheshkhali power plant project.  

The accused are- Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner Ruhul Amin, former additional deputy commissioner (revenue) Jafar Alam, former district land acquisition officer Arefin Aktar Noor, Maheshkhali upazila fisheries officer Mashiur Rahman, district land acquisition department officer Abdul Kader, Surveyor Fakhrul Islam, Badsha Mia and land acquisition department chief Abul Kashem Majumdar.   

A compliant was raised that the administrative officials of the largest coal power project and the Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited Project Director Engineer Ilias were involved directly in misuse of the huge amount of money by cheque scam.

Sources said that though land acquisition department chief Abul Kashem was dismissed from his post but others are continuing their jobs as usual. The accused are trying to save themselves in many ways after the case was sent to Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).

ACC collected the concerning papers in this regard, the sources confirmed.

Preferring anonymity a source of deputy commission said that evidence indicates that the accused officials were involved in the cheque scam.
