Central Jail to be shifted to Keraniganj by June: PM

Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that Dhaka Central Jail will be shifted to Keraniganj from Lalbagh by June next.

The Prime Minister said this while addressing the launching ceremony of Kara Saptaha-2014 (Prison Week) at Kashimpur Prison Campus Parade Field on Tuesday morning.

In his speech, the Prime Minister said nine acres land of the existing prison would be utilized for construction of a park with opening of two museums in central jail for public.

The government is running the jail administration with the principle– ‘Hate the Sin not the Sinner’. So, the government is implementing massive programs for improvement of jail atmosphere, Sheikh Hasina said.

The Prime Minister said the security system of the prisons would be modernized so that militants and top terrorists cannot conduct their activities from the jail.

Earlier, State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan and IG Prison Brigadier General Syed Iftekhar Uddin received the Prime Minister at the parade ground. PM inaugurated the the week through releasing pigeons and balloons.

Minister for Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Haque, PM`s advisors, parliament members and senior government officials were present on the occasion.
