Zubair murder verdict today

Staff Correspondent: The verdict for the killing of Zubair Ahmed, a student of English department of Jahangirnagar University (JU), will be delivered today (Sunday).

On February 4, a Dhaka court rescheduled the verdict announcement date of Zubair Ahmed murder case to February 8.

Judge ABM Nizamul Haque of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 of Dhaka passed the order as the jail authorities failed to produce the accused before it on security ground following the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s ongoing hartal.

The trail processes have been ended on January 28. The court also rejected the bail plea of the seven who were accused in the murder and sent them to jail.

The accursed are: Nazmul Hassan Plaban, Kamruzzaman Sohag, Mazahrul Islam and Mahmudul Hasan, Shafiul Alam Setu, Abhinandan Kundu and Nazmus Shakib Tapu of the University while others are Ashiqul Islam Ashique, Khan Mohammed Riaz and Zahid Hassan, Istiaque Mehbub Arup and Rashedul Islam Razu and Mahbub Akram.

On January 8, 2012, Zubair was brutally killed by his rivals in the campus.
