Mymensingh`s journey as division begins

Staff Correspondent: The government has issued a gazette notification declaring Mymensingh as the eighth administrative division of the country.

The division consists of four districts of Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sherpur and Netrokona.

The gazette notification singed by Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Public Administration, was issued on Wednesday.

Earlier on September 14, the government gave its final approval for the proposal to declare Mymensingh as the eighth administrative division at a meeting of National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (NICAR) with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the chair.

The total area of the division is 13,631.12 sq-km with a population of nearly 1.14 crore.
