Kurigram Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, after torching 2,500 buses and burning 150 people to death in the name of movement, is now conducting killings of foreign nationals to tarnish the country`s image, herself staying in abroad.

She came up with the remarks while addressing a public rally at Kurigram Government College Ground on Thursday afternoon. Awami League`s Kurigram district unit organised the rally.

Sheikh Hasina expressed her firm determination not to tolerate militancy and terrorism in the country.

"There is no room for militancy, terrorism in Bangladesh and we don`t want anybody to resort to such crimes. Rather we want everyone to lead a beautiful and peaceful life and we want to build the country this way," she said.

Prior to her speech, the Prime Minister inaugurated 16 development projects and laid foundation stones of 14 projects here.

Once Kurigram was known as Monga area, the PM said. But Awami League, after coming to power in 1996, erased the word `Monga`.

The Prime Minister also announced that an industrial area will be set up in Kurigram. Besides, measures will be taken for providing proper education for the people of the area. She said a government college will be built and a secondary school will be brought under government operation in each upazila while universities will be set up in both public and private initiatives.

She also assured that measures will be taken for river embankment. The premier announced that a mini stadium will be built in each upazila.

Awami League joint Secretary Dr Dipu Moni, Organizing Secretary Khalid Mahmood Chowdhury, versatile writer Syed Shamsul Haque and General Secretary of Kurigram District Awami League Jafar Ali addressed the rally, among others, while District AL President Aminul Islam Manju Mandal presided over it.
