Nabanna Utsab starts

Staff Correspondent:  Nabanna Utsab, the festival of new crop, celebrated by the rural people of Bangladesh, begins today (Sunday), the 1st day of Agrahayan, a month of Bengali calendar.

Soon after harvest starts, the farmers return homes with loads of golden paddy.

This is a joyous time in the villages. The women of the family make different types of home-made cake of rice flour.

Relatives come from one village to another to enjoy and share the happiness of the farmers.

The Nabanna Utsab is celebrated all over the country where people of towns and cities also gather to join the village people to have the taste of rural atmosphere and know the Bengali culture and heritage.
