Wrecked Hardinge Bridge emerge after 44-yr

Pabna Correspondent: The wrecked parts of Hardinge Bridge damaged by bombing during the liberation war in 1971 were found in Padma River after a long 44 years.
Recently, a local diver, Ashraf Ali Khan, has found it visible in the river while catching fish.
Later, hearing from him, curious locals rushed to the spot and found some visible parts in the river.
The incident created much hype in locals.
Paksey divisional bridge Engineer Ariful Islam said that the railway authorities have visited the spot after being informed in this regard.
`A letter has been issued to the railway`s Rajshahi Division office to take necessary initiatives in this connection,` the official also added.
The bridge was damaged on December 14, 1971 when the 12th Span of the bridge broken and went under water.
Hardinge Bridge is a steel railway bridge over the river Padma located at Paksey in western Bangladesh. It is named after Lord Hardinge, who was the Viceroy of India from 1910 to 1916. The bridge is 1.8 kilometres (1.1 mi) long.
