Staff Correspondent: Lawmaker of Narayanganj-5 constituency Selim Osman on Thursday claimed that he saved teacher Shyamal Kanti Bhakta from death in the hands of mob on that day at Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Bandar area of the district.
Selim Osman made the claim while addressing a press briefing at the auditorium of Narayanganj Club in the afternoon.
He said, "I did not humiliate the teacher. About four to five thousand people besieged him. The teacher requested me to save him. Later, I asked him to say sorry in front of people."
"I saved him from death otherwise he would be beaten to death by the agitated people," the lawmaker said.
In reply to another question he said, “There is no question of an apology.”
Earlier, on May 13, Piyar Sattar Latif High School headmaster Shyamal Kanti Bhakta was physically abused following the allegation of hurting people’s religious sentiment by speaking ill of it. Meanwhile, the local lawmaker forced him to squat holding earlobes.
Later, on 17 May, the school authorities suspended Shyamal Kanti days after he was publicly humiliated by the member of parliament (MP).
