'Facebook to be shut after getting govt's direction'

Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Dr. Shahjahan Mahmood said that social network Facebook will be shut after getting direction from the government.

The BTRC chairman made the opinion while replying to a question after addressing an inaugural ceremony organized by edotco at Gulshan in the capital on Tuesday.

He said there is no direction yet from the government. But, the Facebook will be shut just after the government's direction.

Shahjahan Mahmood said, "We will submit the report in details on radiation of mobile towers following the court direction. Legal action will be taken if any operators cross the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)'s fixed limit."

He also said that mobile radiation causes cancer. World Health Organization (WHO), America and other organizations are conducting research in this regard. However, any organization could not provide any data about the damage due to radiation.
