‘Operation Twilight’ ends

Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh army officially ended 'Operation Twilight' in Shibbari area of Sylhet on Tuesday night.

Army's military intelligence director Fakhrul Ahsan made the announcement at a press conference at Jalalabad Cantonment around 8:00pm.

He said that police forces conducted a successful anti-militant drive in Sitakunda on March 15. Following some information, the law enforcers cordoned the area in Shibbari around 1:30am on March 24 and sealed the six storied building named Atia Mahal.

Observing overall situation around 4:00pm, SWAT team sought military assistance and the army took charge the anti-militant drive.

Later, a team of the army para-commando force started 'Operation Twilight' led by GOC Major General Anwarul Momen of 17 Infantry Division.

“We concluded the operation and handed over the Atia Mahal to police considering it as a crime scene this afternoon,” Fakhrul Ahsan said.

So far, four militants including a woman were killed during the raid and six more – including two policemen – in bomb explosion near the marked building during the raid.
