Case filed against Badda OC, 7 others

Staff Correspondent: A case has been filed against eight people including the officer-in-charge (OC) of Badda Police Station with the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) in Dhaka on charge of extortion in the capital.
Nurunnahar Nasima Begum, a resident of Badda, filed the case with the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Mazharul Islam against the eight people on Sunday.
Taking the case into cognizance, the court accepted the plaintiff's deposition and ordered Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the case.
The court also asked the PBI to submit a report in this regard on August 7.
The accused of the case are-- officer-in-charge (OC) of Badda Police Station MA Abdul Jalil, Badda Police Station's SI Shahid, ASI Din Islam, ASI Md Abdur Rahim, advocate Jahanara Rashid Rupa, Rokeya Rashid, electrician M Shukur Ali and Ataur Rahman Kaysar. Five people have been made witnesses in the case.
According to the case statement, Nurunnahar has long been at loggerheads over the ownership of a piece of land with her step daughter Jahanara Rashid Rupa.
Both Nurunnahar and Rupa used to live at the same house at Badda along with their respective family members.
Rupa, her husband Ataur Rahman Kaysar and two others -- Rokeya Rashid and electrician M Shukur Ali -- went to Nurunnahar’s apartment yesterday along with Sub-inspector of Badda police station Shahid, Assitant Sub-Inspectors Din Islam and M Abdur Rahim and three constables, the case statement said.
As Nurunnahar was not at home then, Rupa asked Nurunnahar's son Robin to fix electricity problem of her apartment.
As Robin denied to do so, the policemen beat him up with hammer, leaving him injured.
Later, the police personnel vandalised furniture and took Tk 20,000 and five bhories of golden ornaments from the apartment.
Earlier on May 26, ASI Abdur Rahim asked Nurunnahar to give Tk two lakh to OC Abdul Jalil, the case statement said.
