Dipu Moni returns home empty-handed: Anandabazar

DHAKA, July 27: Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni is returning home from Delhi virtually empty-handed before the next election, reported the influential Indian Bangla daily Anandabazar Patrika on Saturday.

Under the headline "Dipu Moni returning home empty-handed," it also said Dhaka knows well that BJP leadership holds the key to passage of the Land Boundary Agreement in the Indian parliament. So, Dipu Moni sat with the main opposition leader in the Rajyasabha, Arun Jaitley, but the ice did not melt.

Arun Jaitley did not make any positive response to Dipu Moni`s requests, he only said he would raise the issue with other BJP leaders.

The daily also reports that Dipu Moni also met Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and joined an Iftar party with Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid on Friday.

Many issues came up for discussion, but the main issues were the Teesta water sharing and the Land Boundary Agreement. However, no hint at a solution to the problems came, the daily reports.

According to BJP sources, though it relates to the foreign policy and they are not opposed to Bangladesh, still there is no immediate possibility of backing the government’s bill to be tabled in the parliament regarding the land border deal.

After Jaitley-Dipu Moni meeting, a BJP source said there is no possibility of supporting or endorsing the bill though are not anti-Bangladesh. A BJP leader also said, "Bangladesh`s votes cannot be the matter of our concern."

A BJP leader said, “The voting in Bangladesh may not be is our matter of concern.”
