DHAKA, Aug 4: The long awaited ‘Kuril Flyover’ on airport road has opened for public . Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the flyover on Sunday morning, sources said.

The 3.1-kilometer-long ‘Kuril Intersection Flyover’ was constructed by RAJUK at a cost of Taka 303 crores that will open another gateway to the capital from Purbachal New City.

According RAJUK sources, it will also ease the commuter movement from northern and eastern regions of the country to the capital while vehicles will enter through Kanchan Bridge, Sylhet bypass and Purbachal link road.

Built on 12.82 acres of land, from 6.7 to 9.2-metre wide and 14.6-metre high flyover has four loops and 20 directions.

Commuters coming from the west of the capital will use loop-1 to go to Pragati Sarani and Purbachal, while commuters from Pragati Sarani and adjoining areas will use loop-2 on their way to Nikunja.

It will ease traffic flow in the area and save valuable time for commuters. Presently, around 87 trains cross the Pragati Sarani level crossing every day, halting traffic for hours, said the officials.

Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of the flyover in 2010 and the work started on March 2011.
