Senior Correspondent: Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain said the High Court order staying the by-polls for the mayoral post of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will not create any stalemate on the regular activity of DNCC.
The minister came up with the comment while talking to reporters at the secretariat on Wednesday noon.
Mosharraf Hossain said “I want to assure the people that the polls stay would not cause any impasse in DNCC, we shall assist if any problem arises there.”
In reply to a query, he said according to the law the panel mayor will carry out the regular activities as panel mayor is posted to carry out the works of elected representatives.
Within one or two days he will sit with Election Commission (EC), said Mosharraf Hossain adding that government would render all cooperation if EC so requires for holding the election.
The High Court this morning issued a three-month stay order on the process for holding by-election for the mayoral post of DNCC and elections to the councilor posts in 36 new wards. The election was scheduled to be held on February 26.
Earlier on January 9, the Commission declared the election schedule for holding the polls to the DNCC mayoral post and elections to the councilor posts in 36 new wards.
