Staff Correspondent: A court in Dhaka on Tuesday sent BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu to jail in a sabotage case filed with Ramna police station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate AKM Moinuddin Siddique passed order rejecting the bail petition filed by Dudu’s lawyers Sanaullah Mia, Syed Zainul Abedin Mezbah and Helal Uddin.

Earlier, Ramna police station’s Sub-Inspector Sudip Kumar Ghosh, also the investigation officer of the case, produced Dudu before the court and appealed to the court to put him into jail custody until the investigation of the case ended.

Later, the court ordered the authority to send Dudu to jail after concluding the hearing from both sides.

Earlier, Police arrested BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu from Dhaka’s Segunbagicha area in a case filed with Ramna police station over the isolated incidents on the day of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Orphanage Trust case verdict.

Three cases were filed with Ramna police station while two were filed with Shahbagh police station over the isolated incidents centering the verdict on February 8. Dudu was arrested in one of the cases filed with Ramna police.

On February 8, a special court convicted Khaleda and sentenced her to five-year rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

Following the verdict, several hundred BNP leaders and followers formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka’s Segunbagicha area amid tight security from where Dudu was arrested.
