Foreign currency worth Tk 16 lakh seized from passenger’s shoes

Staff Correspondent: Customs has seized foreign currency worth Tk 16 lakh hidden in the shoes of a passenger at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Kamrul Islam, a passenger, was detained before he was going to Malaysia on Friday night.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Division Director Dr. Moinul Khan confirmed the matter.

“He was questioned by customs detectives but he denied carrying currency. He was searched and 70,000 Saudi riyal and 2200 Malaysian ringgit were found hidden in his shoes”, Moinul Khan said.

Legal measures have been taken against the detainee, he added.
