Ex-MP Mohammad Yusuf passes away

Staff Correspondent, Chittagong: Mohammad Yusuf, former Member of Parliament (MP) has passed away at the age of 69.

He died while undergoing treatment at Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka around 8:20am on Sunday.

Dr Hasan Mahmud, MP of Chittagong's Rangunia said the body is being shifted to Chittagong. 

On January 9, the ailing former parliamentarian Mohammad Yusuf was shifted to Dhaka for better treatment following the direction of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Yusuf, then a leader of the Communist Party of Bangladesh, defeated NDP candidate Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury in the 1991 elections under the Awami League-led coalition’s ‘boat’ symbol. He later joined the Awami League.
