Augustin Sujan Barai: Ekushey February, the International Mother Language Day, is being observed today. The nation is paying glowing tributes to the Language Movement martyrs, who laid down their lives for the recognition of Bangla as a state language on this day in 1952.

Humming "Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rangano Ekushey February...", thousands of Bangalis thronged the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital and elsewhere in the early hours today to pay homage to the language heroes.  The song is very popular and widely sung on the day to remember the sacrifice of Salam, Rafiq, Barkat, Jabbar.

However, many other lyricists peened songs on the occasion among which is poet, lyricist and composer Mahbubul A Khalid. His song ‘21 February’ commemorates the history and meaning of the language movement and its significance.  

The song was tuned by famous musician of the country Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul while Kishore and Farhana rendered their voices. The song has been published on the website of www.khalidsangeet.com.

Besides, Mahbubul A Khalid penned two other songs which encourage us about the correct use Bengali Language and urge us to retain the honour of the language as supreme sacrifice needed for the right of the mother tongue.

Among the two songs, one is ‘O re Bangali Bangladeshi’ which has also been tuned by the lyricist himself while Sabrina Nowshin gave her voice. Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul composed the music of the other song titled ‘Tomay Ma Go Kemne Daki’ while Nandita rendered her voice. These songs have also been published on khalidsangeet website.
