Mugger arrested in capital

Staff Correspondent: Police arrested a mugger from Shewraparha area of the capital on Saturday afternoon.

The snatcher was identified as Jakir Hossain, 35. Dhanmondi police arrested him in the case filed over killing a woman in the incident of snatching away bag suddenly at Dhanmondi on January 26.

Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the news.

It may be mentioned that several muggers from a microbus snatched bag of Helena Begum, 35, while she was walking on road no. 7 at Dhanmondi on the day. She fell on the road as the muggers stretched her bag forcibly and they ran over her by the microbus, leaving her dead.

According to Dhanmondi Police Station, police arrested one Abdullah, 30, from the capital's Ashulia on February 13 and seized the microbus used in snatching. On the following day, Abdullah gave confessional statement to the court. Jakir was arrested on the basis of information Abdullah provided.
