Hearing on Khaleda Zia’s bail plea today

Staff Correspondent: The High Court will hear today (Sunday) a bail petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia seeking bail in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim is scheduled to hear the petition from 2:00pm.

On February 22, the same bench had set the date after Khaleda’s lawyers filed the bail petition.

Earlier, on February 8, Special Judge’s Court-5 of Dhaka sentenced Khaleda Zia to five years’ rigorous imprisonment after it found her and five other accused guilty in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. The court in its judgment also sentenced Khaleda’s eldest son Tarique Rahman and four others to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment, and fined Tk 2.10 crore each.
