Three Nobel laureates want to talk to Suu Kyi directly

Staff Correspondent: Terming Rohingya repression in Myanmar as genocide, the three female Nobel Peace laureates have called upon the country's de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi to break her silence over the issue and for an immediate end to the massacre.

The Nobel laureates--Tawakkol Karman, Shirin Ebadi and Mairead Maguire-- also expressed their eagerness to visit Rakhaine and talk to Suu Kyi over the issue directly.

They came up with the statements while addressing a press conference at Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon in the capital following the conclusion of their visit to Bangladesh on the six-month anniversary of the current Rohingya crisis that forced millions to flee into Bangladesh from Rakhine state of Myanmar.

Tawakkol Karman said, "If she fails to do so, her choice is clear; resign or be held accountable, along with the army commanders for the crimes committed."

“She (Suu Kyi) must stop turning a deaf ear to the persecution of the Rohingya or risk being complicit in the crimes,” Karman added.
