Staff Correspondent: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been put on alert as Myanmar has deployed additional troops with heavy arms and ammunitions along Tambru border of Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban.
BGB has also urged Myanmar to hold a flag meeting over the issue.
Additional Director General (Operations) of BGB Brigadier General Mujibur Rahman came up with the disclosure in an urgent press briefing at the headquarters at Pilkhana in the capital on Thursday afternoon.
He said, "Myanmar authorities deployed troops in 150 yards along Tambru border between 34 and 35 outposts. Some militaries came there by pick up, truck and lorry. They also deployed heavy weapons there which is against the border norms."
"We are on alert. We are keeping eyes on the border and ready to fight any unwanted situation at any time for the country," he added.
Mujibur Rahman said, "For several days last, Myanmar militaries are baring Rohingya people who are staying at Zero Point area. It is one kind of push in."
In reply to a query, he said, "Home Ministries of the both countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) a few days ago. So, they were not supposed to take such steps after the MoU. It may not be a provocation. It may be a part of their strategies. We called them for flag meeting over their strategic plans."
