Rice sale at Tk 10 begins, OMS from Sunday

Secretariat Correspondent: The government on Thursday started sale of rice at Tk 10 a kg at several points across the country under the Food-Friendly Programme.

The Open Market Sale (OMS) of rice at Tk 30 per kg is also going to be started from March 4 (Sunday) throughout the country.

A press release sent by the Food Ministry revealed the news on Thursday.

According to the press release, the ultra-poor people, about 50 lakh families, will be given the rice of Tk 10. Each family will get 30kg a month from March to November.

About 7.5 lakh tonnes of rice will be needed under the scheme for the five months.

Meanwhile, every dealer under OMS will get a ton of rice. A person would be able to buy maximum 5 kgs at Tk 30 per kg.  Sale of flour at Tk 17 a kg is also underway, the press release revealed.
