Staff Correspondent, Sylhet: Renowned writer Prof Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, who was stabbed by an unknown miscreant on Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) campus in Sylhet, is currently out of danger, according to physicians of MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital.

Dr Masum of the hospital said around 6:50pm that they could not find any complexity at his Neurology.

"We could not find any disorder in the Neurology. So, he is now out of danger," he added.

He has been taken to Operation Theater, Dr Masum said.

Earlier, Zafar Iqbal underwent Computed Tomography or CT scan around 6:30pm.

Meanwhile, two bags of blood were collected as he suffered brain hemorrhage due to injuries on his head.

An unknown miscreant carried out the attack on the renowned writer during a programme of the department of electrical and electronic engineering (EEE) of the university around 5:30pm on Saturday.

Witnesses and students said, "Zafar Iqbal attended a programme of EEE department as a guest. An unknown miscreant attacked on him with a knife and stabbed in a crowd, leaving him injured."

Though the attacker could not be identified immediately, he was caught by the students.

When contacted, Sust Proctor Prof Zahir Uddin could not be reached on mobile phone.

Meanwhile, additional police have been deployed on the campus to avoid any unwanted situation there, according to Abdul Wahab, additional deputy commissioner (media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP).

Alongside, security measures have also been tightened around MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital, he added.
