Prof Zafar Iqbal admitted to Dhaka CMH

Staff Correspondent: Injured professor Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal has been admitted to Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for better treatment.

He was admitted at the hospital around 12:15am on Sunday, Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) Director Lt Col Mohammad Rashidul Hasan said.

Doctors in CMH said that Professor Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal is out of danger. However, further medical tests including CT scan are being carried out to ensure better treatment.

Earlier, an unknown miscreant carried out the attack on the renowned writer during a programme of the department of electrical and electronic engineering (EEE) of the university around 5:30pm on Saturday.

Witnesses and students said, "Zafar Iqbal attended a programme of EEE department as a guest. An unknown miscreant attacked on him with a knife and stabbed in a crowd, leaving him injured."

"The youth aged 24-25 suddenly made the attack emerging from behind the Muktamanch," they added.

After the incident, the renowned writer and Professor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), was taken to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Later, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid visited the hospital to see injured Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal.

Later, following the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he was shifted to Dhaka by an air ambulance.
