Priyabhashini laid to rest beside Jahanara Imam

Staff Correspondent: Noted sculptor and freedom fighter Ferdousi Priyabhashini has been laid to rest at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard in the capital beside the grave of martyr Jahanara Imam.

She was buried there around 4:00pm on Thursday, two days after she breathed her last at Labaid Hospital in the city on Tuesday.

Earlier, her namaj-e-janaza was held at the central mosque of Dhaka University (DU) at 1:35pm.

DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, Prof Md Samad, Prof Muntasir Mamun and Gonojagoron Manch spokesperson Irman H Sarkar among others attended the janaza.

Before that, people from all walks of life paid their last respects to the freedom fighter at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka from 11:00am to 12:00pm.

Speaker of the parliament Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury accompanied with Dr Dipu Moni and lawmaker Pankaj Debnath paid their last respects to the noted sculptor there.

Priyabhasini was given a guard of honor at the Central Shaheed Minar by Dhaka district administration.

Ferdousi Priyabhashini had been suffering from multiple health complications.
