‘30 lakh saplings to be planted in memory of martyrs’

Secretariat Correspondent: Environment and Forests Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud said the ministry would plant 30 lakh saplings in memory of 30 lakh martyrs, who sacrificed their lives to achieve the independence of the country during the Liberation War in 1971.
“We have taken the initiative to pay tribute to the 30 lakh martyrs by planting 30 lakh saplings at different educational institutions across the country, which would also play an important role to enrich our environment,” Mahmud said.
The minister said this while presiding over an inter-ministerial meeting at the conference room of the ministry at Secretariat on Monday.
Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman, State Minister for Technical and Madrasa Education Kazi Keramat Ali were, among others, present at the meeting.
The initiative would be implemented on June, the month of tree plantation, involving the primary school students, Mahmud added.
Meanwhile, Forest Department started producing saplings in this regard, the Chief Conservator of Forests Mohammed Shafiul Alam Chowdhury said.
