Child rape case accused killed in gunfight

Cox's Bazar Correspondent: An accused of a rape case was killed in a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel in Pekua Upazila of the district on Tuesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Hakim Mintu, 30, son of Mostafa Ali, hailed from Shekherkhil Tekpara of Banshkhali upazila in Chottogram.

RAB 7 Cox's Bazar Company Commander Major Md Ruhul Amin said after receiving information about the whereabouts of Abul Hakim, a team of RAB conducted a drive in the area this morning. Meanwhile, sensing the presence of law enforcers, a group of miscreants opened fire aiming RAB which triggered the gunfight.

At one stage, the criminals fled the scene, leaving Abdul Hakim behind. Later, RAB recovered the bullet hit body from the spot with a pistol, five rounds of bullets and two cases of fired bullets.

The RAB commander also said that the Abdul Hakim raped the 10-year-old girl on April 18. Later, on April 21, the victim’s father filed the case with Banshkhali Police Station.
