Separate bicycle lanes demanded

Staff Correspondent: Dhaka University's Former Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique has demanded separate bicycle lanes in the capital to make help protecting the city environment.
A rally was formed in capital's Shahbagh on the premises of National Museum on Friday demanding dust-smoke free Dhaka city.
The special rally that started from Shahbagh and ended their programme at National Press Club marching through TSC, Bangla Academy, Doel Chattar.
Poribesh Bachao Andolon (Poba), 'Jono Uddog', Stamford University's Science Department and Bangladesh Cycle Lane Implementation Council organized the rally.
The former DU VC said, "Physical exercise is needed for the protection of young generation. Using bicycle lane, physical exercise can be done side by saving the time of people."
"People can reach their destination in the capital quickly using bicycle lane. But, there is no separate lane in the capital," he added.
AAMS Arefin Siddique also said, "Cycling is better than swimming. Alongside the security, bicycle lane is needed in Dhaka."
Poribesh Bachao Andolon (Poba) chairman Abu Naser Khan, Drama personality Dr Enamul Haque, former footballer Kaysar Hamid, Stamford University VC Prof. Mohammad Ali Naqi and other attended the function.
