I’m not astrologer, says AG

Staff Correspondent: Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said that he does not know when BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will get release from jail.

He said, “I cannot tell when Khaleda Zia will be freed from jail as I’m not an astrologer. Khaleda’s release totally depends on the court.”

The Attorney General on Tuesday came up with the statement when he was asked whether Khaleda Zia would get release if the bail is upheld by the Appellate Division in Cumilla cases.

He said, “I can tell that no person of any country in the world would escape trials after committing such crimes.”

Pro-BNP lawyers made comments that Khaleda Zia will not get release if the government has no good will in this regard.

In reaction to that, AG said, “The statement is contempt to the court. There are courts in the country. They are granting bail and sometimes they are staying it.”
