5,035 Bangladeshis in foreign jails

Staff Correspondent: Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam B. Sc. said that some 5,035 Bangladeshi workers are in jails in various countries.
The minister made the disclosure while replying a question of Feni-2 constituency lawmaker Nizam Uddin Hazari in the parliament on Monday.
Of them 976 Bangladeshis prisoners in Saudi Arabia, 851 in UAE, 810 in Malaysia, 478 in Oman, 438 in Bahrain, 384 in Kuwait, 238 in Qatar and rest of them are in other countries.
Nurul Islam B. Sc. said, free legal assistances are being given to return these Bangladeshis through the concerned Bangladesh Embassy or High Commissions.
Wage earners welfare board provides financial assistance every year to release Bangladeshis maintaining legal procedure, he added.
