Quota reformists attacked, press briefing foiled

Staff Correspondent: Quota reformists who were scheduled to hold a press conference in front of the central library on the Dhaka University campus at 11:00am on Saturday came under attack, leaving several of them injured.

The press conference was foiled due to the attack allegedly carried out by Bangladesh Chhatra League men.

Quota protesters and some witnesses alleged that some BCL activists suddenly swooped on the quota protesters when they were scheduled to hold their scheduled press conference to announce their fresh programme in front of the library.

At that time, they allegedly beat up three protesters including Hasan Al Mamun, coordinator of the council and Nurul Haq, joint convener of the council, leaving them injured.

The injured have been taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.

“We came under attack by some BCL men when we gathered in front of the central library on the DU campus at 11:00am to hold our scheduled press conference,” said Hasan Al Mamun, coordinator of Bangladesh Shadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, a platform spearheading the protest.
