Neutral polls possible under current EC: Bernicat

Staff Correspondent: US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat expressed hope that holding free, fair and neutral polls are possible under the current Election Commission (EC).

The US excellency came up with the hope while talking to reporters after emerging from meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) K M Nurul Huda at the Election Bhaban at Agargaon in the capital on Thursday afternoon.

When drew her attention over EC’s criticize about her comment made on GCC polls, she said, “This is the beauty of democracy. Any discussion-criticism is the beauty of democracy. It should be allowed to continue smoothly.”

In reply to another question, Bernicat said, “We discussed many things about polls. We suggested them to ensure equal facilities or level-playing field for all political parties in the next general election.”
