DCs instructed to maintain law, order during election period

Desk Report: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said the deputy commissioners (DCs) have been instructed to maintain law and order under control during the next general elections.
“The government will provide necessary logistic support to all DCs during the election period as the Election Commission will conduct next polls,” he told newsmen after the last session of the final day of the DC conference at the Secretariat in the capital on Thursday.
Chaired by Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam, the Department of Public Safety and Security Services Division of the Home Ministry discussed various security issues with DCs.
The minister said after the announcement of the next general election schedule, all DCs would have to maintain law and order following the EC’s instruction.
“The law enforcement agencies are ready to perform their duties smoothly as they are capable and efficient to discharge duties. The government provided necessary logistic support and if needed additional assistance will be provided to them,” Kamal said.
He said the DCs have been urged to present a fair election to the nation, adding, “The government has undertaken various development projects across the country to ensure security.”
During the meeting with DCs, the minister said the government is constructing fire service and civil defence units in every upazila as per the Prime Minister’s directives.
Describing the government’s tremendous development in various sector especially in home ministry, the minister said the government brought militancy and terrorism activities under control.
The law enforcement agencies have been conducting anti-drug operations across the country to eliminate drug abuse, adding, “All DCs will work closely in this regard.”
Regarding additional prisoners in jail, he said, “I have discussed the matter, process under to quick trial of drug related cases and all DCs have been asked to cooperate for conducting additional mobile courts.” _BSS
