Satkhira gunfight kills one

Satkhira Correspondent: A suspected motorbike theft gang leader was killed in a gunfight with police in Nurnagar area of Shaymnagar sadar upazila in the district early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Rezaul Islam, son of Mazed Sardar, hailed from Badghata village of the upazila.

Sources said a team of DB police detained Rezaul from Mirpur area of the capital on Thursday night. He was main accused in a motorcycle stealing case from Shyamnagar police compound and upazila sadar's Abdullahel Baki kidnapping case. Following the cases, DB handed over him to Syamnagar police station on Friday night.

Later, police went to the area to recover a motorbike. Meanwhile, sensing presence of police, Rezaul Bahini opened fire. In reply, police also opened fire which triggered the gunfight, leaving Rezaul dead on the spot.

A one-shooter gun and a one round of bullet were recovered from the spot.

Ilias Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Syamnagar police station in Satkhira said, Rezaul was wanted in nine cases filed in the police station.
