Khulna-4 by-polls: Salam Murshedy submits nomination paper

Staff Correspondent, Khulna: The ruling Awami League (AL) nominated businessman, also former footballer of Bangladesh National Team, Abdus Salam Murshedy has submitted nomination paper.

He submitted the nomination paper to Yunus Ali, Khulna divisional regional election officer and returning officer for Khulna-4 by-election, on Sunday noon.

Khulna City Awami League (AL) president and new elected Khulna City mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, the district AL president and chairman of district council Sheikh Harunur Rashid, city AL general secretary Mizanur Rahman Mizan MP and central AL leader S M Kamal Hossain, Bangabandhu’s nephew Sheikh Sohel, former lawmaker Mollal Jalal Uddin, AL leader Aminul Haque, Kamruzzaman Jamal, Aktaruzzaman Babu, Humayun Kabir Bobdy, Sheikh Ali Akbar, Munshi M Mahbub Alam Sohag, BCL leader Asaduzzaman Rasel and leader and activists of different affiliate bodies of Awami League were present during submission of the nomination paper.

According to office of returning officer, three aspirants collected nomination paper for the by-election. The other two aspirants are S M Anisur Rahman of Jatiya Party (JP) and former Army major Dr Sheikh Habibur Rahman as Independent.

Apart from Salam Murshedy, the two aspirants have yet not submitted their papers.

The by-election is scheduled to be held on September 20.

According to the scheduled declared by the Election Commission (EC), the last date of submitting nomination paper is 5:00pm on August 26 (Sunday).

The nomination papers will be scrutinised on August 28 while that for withdrawal is September 4. Symbols will be distributed among candidates on September 5.

The parliamentary constituency (Rupsa-Dighalia-Terokhada) fell vacant following the death of Mostafa Rashidi Suja who died at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on July 26.
