Salam Murshedi set to be elected unopposed

Staff Correspondent, Khulna: Awami League candidate Abdus Salam Murshedi, a former national footballer, is going to be elected unopposed in the by-election to Khulna-4 constituency.

The nomination paper of Salam Murshedi has been declared legal on Tuesday.

Md Yunus Ali, returning officer and also election officer of Khulna divisional regional election office, declared legal the nomination paper of Salam Murshedi after scrutiny.

Md Yunus Ali said Salam Murshedi will be elected unopposed in the by-election to Khulna-4 constituency on September 5, the day of allotment of election symbols.

Earlier on Sunday, Salam Murshedi submitted his nomination paper to returning officer Md Yunus Ali for the by-election as a lone candidate.

Although Sunday was the last date for submission of nomination papers, two other intending candidates — Jatiya Party leader SM Anisur Rahman and independent candidate Major (retd) Dr Habibur Rahman who collected nomination forms — did not submit it.

The by-election to Khulna-4 constituency comprising Rupsa, Terokhada and Dighalia was scheduled to be held on September 20.

The Khulna-4 constituency fell vacant following the death of AL’s three-time MP SM Mostafa Rashidi Suja on July 26.
