4 election commissioners submit unofficial note

Staff Correspondent: Four Election Commissioners have submitted an unofficial note seeking to know decisions and information taken by Election Commission (EC) Secretariat.

The unofficial note has been submitted to EC secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed recently, according to EC sources.

Meanwhile, EC secretariat came up with an instruction to reveal the four commissioners different information since they submitted the unofficial note.

Five election commissioners led by K M Nurul Huda as chief took charges of the election commission (EC) on February 15, 2017.

The other four commissioners are: Mahbub Talukder, Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam and Brig Gen (retd) Shahadat Hossain.

According to the rules of the EC, EC secretariat along with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) can take some decisions without the other four commissioners. So, they could not know several decisions taken by EC secretariat. On the circumstance, the four commissioners submitted unofficial note seeking information.

Commissioner Rafiqul Islam said, “We sought some information through unofficial note.”

“We submitted the note to know information so that we can reply queries made by journalist,” he added.
