Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) on Tuesday ordered formation of a committee to launch an investigation into the absence of Bangabandhu’s photo and distortion of the Liberation War history in the book ‘History of Bangladesh Bank’.
The court also asked the Finance Division Secretary to submit a report to his end within 30 days.
An HC bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Mohammad Ali passed the order following a writ petition.
Barrister ABM Altaf Hossain stood for the writ petition during the hearing in the court.
The court also issued a rule asking the government to explain as to why the distortion of the Liberation War history and the absence of the photo of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the book should not be declared illegal.
ABM Altaf Hossain told risingbd.com that Bangladesh Bank has published Bangladesh Banker Itihasin December last year in which the picture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation and architect of the country’s independence, was not involved and his contribution in establishing Bangladesh Bank has not been mentioned in detail.
In the book, the pictures of the then president of Pakistan Aiyub Khan and the then East Pakistan provincial governor Abdul Monem Khan have been published, he said.
The independence and the Liberation War of Bangladesh have been diminished due to this act, he added.
The Finance Division Secretary and five others have been made respondents to the rule which is returnable in four weeks.
Bangladesh Bank has published a book ‘History of Bangladesh Bank’ in December 2017 in which there is no existence of the photo of Bangabandhu and it also distorted the history of the Liberation War, including the ‘7th March Speech’.
